Jerry’s Pond Updates

Excavation in limited areas around Jerrys Pond is being conducted by a certified, licensed abatement contractor under a MassDEP-approved work plan. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including Tyvek suits and respirators, is a proactive safety measure designed to protect workers from prolonged direct contact to potential contaminants. Air monitoring is being conducted both within workers’ breathing zones and at multiple perimeter monitoring stations around the work area. Monitoring results have confirmed that contaminants are not becoming airborne and that there is no risk to the either workers or surrounding community. The use of Tyvek suits and respirators does not indicate the presence of an exposure hazard. Rather, these measures serve as a required precaution and an additional layer of worker protection in accordance with applicable regulations. Following excavation, clean soil is being placed in the affected areas to support future site work and maintain long-term protective measures
